Try it before you buy it: Why you should visit a display home

Just like test-driving a new car, visiting a display home is a crucial step in the journey to securing your new granny flat. Inspecting pictures online and in brochures is one thing, but there’s nothing quite like seeing all the elements and all the potential they can bring to your family in real life. It’s the perfect way to provide yourself with the reassurance that you’re heading in the right direction, especially when that walk-through feels like home. But aside from getting a good feeling, what should you really be doing?

Understand your space

Floorplans are essential, yes, but it’s often difficult to fully comprehend your space on paper. Visiting a display home lets you take in the layout in actual measurements, allowing you to get a true understanding of the flow and feel from room to room – and in turn, decide on the right design for you and your family.

Quality control

Nothing will give you a better insight into the quality and finishes of a build than visiting the display home. Here you can inspect it all, from the tiling and windows to the floor coverings and cabinetry. The quality of the material used when building a house will determine its lifespan, so be sure to seek that assurance inside and out when you visit.

Ask your questions

One of the most important things you’ll experience when visiting a display home is meeting a Building and Design Consultant. This is your opportunity to question and confirm all aspects of the build. Make sure to ask them about the building materials and brands used, what alterations they can make to fit your requirements, the planning timelines and duration of the construction, and – perhaps most importantly – your budget.
